Acerca de esta organización

The North Platte Special Olympics Delegation offers training and competition in the following year-round sports including bowling, cornhole, swimming, and bocce ball. These Olympic-type sports offer individuals with intellectual disabilities to compete at all ability levels by assigning the athletes to "competition divisions" based on actual performance preliminary heats and age. Athletes have a chance to advance to State, National, and at times International Games because of the equal ability division they are placed.

Children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics develop improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence, and a positive self-image. Athletes grow mentally, socially, and spiritually and, through their involvement exhibit boundless courage and enthusiasm. They enjoy the rewards of friendship and ultimately discover not only new abilities and talents but 'their voices' as well.

People with disabilities play an important and valued role in every community. All people, including people with disabilities, must have the opportunity to take part in important daily activities.
